Help - Backgrounds
In the Viewer, you have the ability to add a Day Background and a Night Background. Other than naming your system, this is the only place in the main area of the Viewer that you can put personalized content.
Between Sunrise and Sunset, the Day Background is displayed, and between Sunset and Sunrise, the Night Background is displayed.
You can upload images via the Animate button on the Dashboard for any of your Systems. Use a .png or .gif graphic if you wish to use the weather simulator, as these file types allow transparency. A .jpg, .bmp on the other hand will block the sky and distant clouds completely.
The Viewer, being comprised of several layers, is shown below with an example Day Background. The farthest layer is the sky, the next farthest is distant cloud, then the background layer, then close clouds, then the Layout, then labels, and finally, the Viewer border itself which contains the System name, SPLASH logo, navigation buttons, and ticker.
Notice in the left hand screenshot that the Day Background image, which contains only the blue word "EXAMPLE", is obscured by the close clouds, the roof, and the border. The Background itself obscures only the distant clouds and the sky.
How to make a background image
The image that you are uploading should not exceed the entire size of Viewer (900 pixels wide by 624 pixels tall). In fact, it is faster to load images that only span the area you wish to have the background occupy. Just keep in mind that the image is aligned to the upper left hand pixel of the viewer (roughly where the SPLASH logo is placed).
One easy way to place the graphic exactly is to take a screen shot of the Viewer (use the Print Screen button on your keyboard), open a graphic editor (such as GIMP, Photoshop, Fireworks), paste the screenshot into a new layer, crop the entire image to include only the pixels along the edges of the Viewer (remove extra white space). Create a new layer or layers and place your Background Graphic element or elements (files types that support transparency: eps, ai, png, gif) where you want them, then delete the screenshot layer. Make sure that the "canvas" or "background" is transparent, and save as a .gif or .png.
